Horse Show Chairman, Anne Clark, announced the 2008 winners of the 51st Annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show Poster Contest at the May meeting of the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District Board of Education.

For the past 19 years, local high school students have submitted original artwork with an equestrian theme to the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show Poster Contest. The contest is held to focus on the artistic talent of Peninsula high school students, to aid the art departments of our local high schools and to give publicity to the upcoming Horse Show that raises money to benefit Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. This year's 2008 contestants are all art students from the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District. The winners were announced recently and award checks went to the following students: first place, Jessica Kim, Palos Verdes High School; second place, Soo Oh, PVPHS; third place, Amy Shi, PVPHS; fourth place, Rossa Kim, PVPHS; fifth place, Yunhwan Jung, PVPHS. Honorary mentions went to Heidi Dong, Judy Kasuga and Michelle Liu who attend PVPHS. At PVHS the students were under the direction of Denny Bales; PVPHS Joyce Kobiashi.

The poster contest was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davidson who are founding members of the Peninsula Committee for 51 years. A donation was also made to the Palos Verdes High School fine arts department and to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in Jessica Kim's honor.

Jessica Kim just completed her sophomore year at PVHS and is visiting her grandparents in Korea this summer. She said that she loves art and plans to study art in college and make it her career. Jessica's art will be seen on the Horse Show publicity poster and the cover of the Horse Show Program. All of the posters will be on display at the Peninsula branch of the Palos Verdes Library from August 18, through September 2, and in the admissions booth at the Horse Show September 5, 6 and 7 at Ernie Howlett Park.
