Horse Show Chairman Paige Rice announced the 2009 winners of the 52nd Annual
Portugese Bend National Horse Show at the June meeting of the Palos Verdes Peninsula
School District Board of Education.
For the past 20 years,
local high school students have submitted original artwork with an equestrian
theme to the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show Poster Contest. The contest
is held to focus on the artistic talent of Peninsula high school students, to
aid the art departments of our local high schools and to give publicity to the
upcoming Horse Show that raises money to benefit Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
The winning entry is the official Horse Show publicity poster and the cover
of the 2009 Horse Show program. It will be displayed at the Palos Verdes Library
several weeks before the Show and in the Admissions Booth at the Horse Show
September 4, 5 and 6.
Individual award checks
were given to the following winners:
Standing left to right, First Place, Sarah Nam, a junior from Palos Verdes Peninsula
High School; Second Place, Jennifer Kwan, PVPHS; Third Place, Horse Show Chair
Paige Rice holding Dawn Joeny's entry, PVPHS; Fourth Place, Anri Iizuka, PVPHS;
Fifth Place, PCCH President Shirley Farley holding Ye Kim's entry, Palos Verdes
High School. Honorable mentions went to Nicole Lim and Rossa Kim from PVPHS,
Ryan Jones from PVHS and Saagar Shah, Chadwick High School.
The Poster Contest is
sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davidson, founding members of the Peninsula Committee
Childrens Hospital. Aside from individual prize money, a donation was made to
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in Sarah Nam's honor and to Palos Verdes Peninsula
High School's Art Department.
