Rolling Hills Estates - The weekend of September 5, 6, and 7, 2008 marks the return of the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show to Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rolling Hills Estates, California. The PENINSULA COMMITTEE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL will present the event as a means of raising money to fund THE CLINICAL IMAGING RESEARCH CENTER AT CHILDRENS HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES, WHICH WILL HAVE A STATE OF THE ART MRI STYSTEM AND AN ENDOWMENT PROGRAM TO SUPPORT RESEARCH.

Over the past fifty one years the Peninsula Committee has contributed more than eight million dollars to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The Peninsula Committee is unique in that entire families become involved in the colorful show. They provide planning, preparation, and personnel to staff the event and they give, in the process, over 15,000 volunteer hours each year.

Childrens Hospital Los Angeles treats nearly 62,000 patients a year in its Emergency Department. It admits more than 11,000 children a year to the hospital, with almost 50% of those admissions children under four years of age. There are more than 287,000 patient visits a year to its 29 outpatient clinics; more than 5,000 visits at community sites through its Division of Adolescent Medicine. Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is able to offer the optimum in multidisciplinary care, with 85 pediatric subspecialties and dozens of special services for children and families.

Founded in 1901, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles has been treating seriously ill and injured children for more than a century, and it is acknowledged throughout the United States and around the world for its leadership in pediatric and adolescent health. Childrens Hospital is one of America's premier teaching hospitals, affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of USC for more than 76 years. It is a national leader in pediatric research.

The A-rated PORTUGUESE BEND NATIONAL HORSE SHOW features accomplished horsemanship and is a highly anticipated competition for both riders and spectators. Two riding rings are fully scheduled all three days offering a wide variety of special events. On Sunday the $10,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic will challenge some of the West Coast's finest Jumper riders over a difficult and exciting course. This show is clearly the most popular three-day event of its kind in the West, and is the site of the Pacific Coast Horse Show Medal Finals.

Jim Gamble's Marionettes will perform on Sunday at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the Children's Circle, which will also have pony rides, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, face painting and games. The food booths entice the crowds with items for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Riding events begin at 8:00 am Friday, and at 7:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. Friday: All ages FREE. Saturday and Sunday general admission is $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for children 4-12, under 4 are free. Reserved seating is available and ringside tables available upon reservation.
