The weekend of September 7– 9, 2012 marks the return of the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show. This major fund raising event for PENINSULA COMMITTEE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL will benefit  the Endowment for Advancing the Developmental Neurosciences at CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES, which will have a state of the art clinical environment for early diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders and be a trusted resource for social support and education for children and their families.

Founded in 1901, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals and is acknowledged worldwide for its leadership in pediatric and adolescent health.  Children’s Hospital is one of only eleven in the nation – and the only one in California – named to the national Honor Roll of children’s hospitals in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report rankings for clinical excellence. In 2011, the hospital opened the new 317-bed state-of-the-art Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion, which further expanded services and capabilities at its main campus on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, Calif., as well as increased the ability to provide family-centered care to residents throughout the region. The Saban Research Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is among the largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States, with an international team of 100 researchers and physicians collaborating to combat cancer, brain disorders, obesity and diabetes, among other devastating pediatric health conditions. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a premier teaching hospital and has been affiliated with Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California since 1932.

For three days, this A-rated PORTUGUESE BEND NATIONAL HORSE SHOW having two fully scheduled arenas offers a wide variety of classes, including the prestigious PCHA Horsemanship Medal Finals for riders 14 and under and the newly awarded PCHA Victor Hugo Vidal Adult Horsemanship Class for riders 35 and over.  In addition, the $6,000 Barby Hartwig Hereford Jr-A/O Jumper Classic and the $15,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic promise to challenge some of the West Coast’s finest riders with difficult and exciting courses.

The PENINSULA COMMITTEE is unique in that entire families become involved in the colorful show. They provide planning, preparation and personnel to staff the event and they give, in the process, over 15,000 volunteer hours each year. An atmosphere of hometown fun is created through the decorations, booths and boutiques. Puppet shows, pony rides, face painting, moon bounce, and fun games are just some of the popular activities in the Children’s Circle.  Also, many food booths entice the crowds with items for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
